March – May 2026 – Completion of flooring and ceiling cladding
Following the Ramadan period, our developer has resumed construction work on the health centre. The following work has been completed:
- Plastering of the external walls
- Installation of ceiling panelling and heat insulation in all rooms
- Tiling in all interior rooms and the entrance area
- Contrary to the original plan, a shower room has been installed in the main building after all, so that women can wash after giving birth without having to leave the building
By early July, the building was complete to the extent that it just needs to be painted.
In addition, our partner organisation in Italy, A.J.E.D., which also carries out projects in Ouarégou, has donated some existing water pipes to us. We are allowed to use these for the water pipes leading into the house. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks once again for this!!!
Our solicitor has informed us that the approval documents from the Ministry of Health have expired and need to be renewed. We began this process at the start of July. For example, the relevant qualifications of our prospective staff members have been updated.
29 June – 10 July 2026 – Painting the window grilles and interior walls
Since the new government led by Ibrahim Traoré came to power, construction projects have been pushed ahead with across Burkina Faso. This has led to a supply bottleneck and price rises for cement, which is why work on the outdoor toilets and the cooking area could not begin. A small amount of cement is also required for painting and smoothing the walls. The cement finally arrived at the end of June, meaning that the toilets and cooking area can now be built and the walls painted.
The following work has been carried out over the past few days:
- The interior walls of the building were first painted with a primer made from a mixture of paint and cement
- A final coat of yellow or reddish paint was then applied
- The entrance and waiting area, as well as the delivery room, were finally painted with a washable yellow oil-based paint
- All window and door grilles and frames were painted yellow
